TS4 Expansion Pack Apocalypse

Post by milaek »

Unfortunately I found myself rather uninspired by the Sims 4 apocalypse written by Pinstar, and also missed the complexity that the expansion packs afforded the challenge in previous Sims games. My favorite version was way back in the Sims Two, so I made a full expansion pack version. It should work with base game and different groupings of the expansion packs. If you don't have the pack that is referred to, simply strike the restriction from the list. It does work best with one or more expansions however. :) I'll be playing through it myself, but if anyone is interested in playtesting, please do! And please let me know of anything that doesn't work/any questions you may have.

Introduction

The year is 20XX. Society was reaching a new pinnacle, with technology and culture taking leaps and bounds forwards by the day. Even the stars were within reach. But Simanity had reached too far this time. While experimenting with space debris, Dr. Loki Beaker unleashed an alien virus on Simkind due to unsafe laboratory practices, and spread at an unheard of speed. Within weeks, all of Simkind was infected. The virus put a strain on the emotional cortexes of Sim's, and lead to the deaths of all but a tiny fraction of Sims who were, for whatever reason, immune to its touches. Within the month, all of those infected had died from their intense emotional outbursts, throwing the world into chaos. Power plants melted down, chains of supply were broken, and Sims found themselves forced to fend for themselves. It was an Apocalypse.

Your founder has had enough of living in the dirt, under the heel of unchecked crime, corrupt governments, and the constant struggle of every day life. For whatever reason, they have decided that they will take their family through this atrocity and perhaps even bring society as a whole out of this Apocalyptic nightmare.

The Apocalypse challenge is written to be very, very difficult at the beginning, and get easier as each generation goes on. There are 31 sets of restrictions that are in place from the beginning of the challenge, which will be lifted over time as family members reach the top of careers and other milestones are met. Once a restriction is removed it remains lifted for the duration of the challenge. You win the challenge by lifting all 30 career related restrictions. The Alien Technology Restriction does not have to be lifted in order to win the challenge.

-
  • You start with one founder, male or female, of young adult age.
  • Bonus points (10) if you use a CAS founder, otherwise this Sim may be one who was played through childhood with the skills and relationships to show for it.
  • You must start on a blank lot with no foliage.
  • All Sims that are part of the household MUST either be part of the founders direct bloodline, or intended to reproduce for the next generation of the direct bloodline. Spouses of Spares are not allowed, as they will not be producing the next direct generation.
  • Only Sims who are part of the direct bloodline, or used to produce next generations of the bloodline are allowed to lift restrictions. For example, a Spare WOULD be allowed to lift a restriction, but the child of said Spare would NOT be allowed to lift any restrictions, even if the pregnancy and birth occurred while the Spare was part of the main household.
  • Pets of any kind and of any pet bloodline are allowed, so long as appropriate restrictions have been lifted.
  • Once the founder is placed on their lot, the main family is not allowed to move for the duration of the challenge. Spares and Heirs/Spouses who have already produced the next generation are allowed to be moved out, so long as appropriate restrictions have been lifted.
  • Only one set of restrictions may be lifted per Sim, even if they reach the top of multiple careers. This does not apply to the 'Hopelessness' or 'Alien Technology' restrictions, and they do not count towards a Sim's single restriction limit.
  • Restrictions may only be lifted by family members living on the main lot. You cannot move out a Spare or such and proceed lo lift a restriction with them on a separate lot.
  • For story-telling purposes, you MAY play other households in the save during the Challenge, but Aging in Played Households must be turned off, and no significant actions may be taken with anyone living on the main lot, nor can they be invited anywhere that would cause them to break a restriction they are under, or made to take any action that would cause them to break a restriction. This can NOT be used as a way to make friends with any Sim living on the main lot, nor as a way of introducing potential spouses. All interactions with the main lot Sims while not playing the main lot should be inter-familial.
  • No cheats, mods, or hacks that would give the player an unfair advantage over a player not using them are allowed.
  • If you wish you MAY use a hack or mod that allows same sex pregnancy or male pregnancy, HOWEVER if such a mod is used you must pick one sex before the challenge begins to be the baby bearers throughout the entirety of the challenge (alien pregnancy non-withstanding). Having a baby using the other sex as the bearer WILL be considered rule breaking and WILL cause you to fail the challenge.
  • You may NOT age up sims early
  • You MUST play on 'normal lifespans'
  • You must follow all career-specific restrictions until a Sim reaches the top of that career, at which point the restriction is considered 'lifted' and that set of restrictions no longer applies. This also applies for Owned Business restrictions, which must reach 5 stars in order to be lifted.
  • If a Sim lifts a restriction on an object or action that is still restricted in some way by another restriction, it is still considered forbidden until all applicable restrictions have been lifted UNLESS specifically stated otherwise.

Hopelessness

The aftereffects of the viral outbreak have left the population deeply scarred. Trust comes harder now, and Sims are still grieving their lost loved ones. No one is willing to promise their life to another Sim when those words feel so very hollow. Many have fallen into complete depression, and no one is looking past tomorrow.
  • You may not move in or marry any Sim, and pets may not be added to the household.
Once your founder reaches the top level in ANY career, he or she shows the worst is over. They are a beacon of hope that someday things might return to normal. With a future now in sight, Sims are willing to look forwards and work together. Your friends may not trust many, but they certainly know they can trust you. The Hopelessness restrictions are lifted!

Astronaut- Smuggler

Since the virus, theft has become common place, and with it Sims have become more cautious. Carrying around more than a few things makes you a target, and no one wants to be a target. The memory of how this Apocalypse began is also still burned into the minds of Simkind, and as such Sims are more suspicious of anything that isn't a complete known.
  • Sims may not carry more than three stacks of items on them at any given time. If they find themselves with more than the allotted amount at any time they are "mugged" and all items in their inventory are considered forfeit. They must be removed and placed in the family inventory, not to be touched ever again.
  • Sims may not open Mystery Capsules
  • Sims may not call the GeoCouncil
  • Fossils may not be opened.
  • Collectibles of any kind may not be sold.
  • Sims may not keep any mineral, fossil, space rock, or alien creature in their inventory for more than 24 hours.
  • If not already lifted by Astronaut- Space Ranger, Alien sims may only reveal their true nature to best friends and family and must always be disguised when outside their home. If any Sim outside of these restrictions accidentally realizes their true nature, the alien must erase their mind.
Once a Sim takes to the stars and forces advancements in both concealment and storage, they circulate this knowledge to the public. And, with all of the loot they have found and moved there is very little that Simkind hasn't seen before. Sims now feel safe in the knowladge that their pockets are safe, as are their contents. The Smuggler restrictions are lifted!

Astronaut- Space Ranger

It was once the dream of every child to traverse the stars and embark on vast adventures. But since the Apocalypse the technology and resources needed to make even an airplane fly have been lost, and such dreams have been crushed. With all of their fantasies ripped from them, day to day life has become a struggle, and it is nearly impossible to convince the children that there are things in life worth working for.
  • Children and Teens may not skill with any object that does not also increase their fun.
  • Children and teens may not attend school (no motivation to go).
  • Sims may not read or write Children's, Fantasy, or Sci-Fi books.
  • Sims may not use Rocket Ships.
  • Sims may not modify Rocket Ships.
  • Only sims in the Astronaut career track (either branch) can build Rocket Ships.
  • Sims may not travel to other Neighborhoods.
  • If not already lifted by Astronaut- Smuggler, Alien sims may only reveal their true nature to best friends and family and must always be disguised when outside their home. If any Sim outside of these restrictions accidentally realizes their true nature, the alien must erase their mind.
Once a Sim cracks the secrets of flight and takes off into space, the dreams of children worldwide are restored. The broadcast of their first journey become monumental, and children are once again inspired to learn what makes the world go round. The technology to craft space vehicles has been re-learned and is now available to the masses. The Space Ranger restrictions are now lifted!
  • Regardless of other restrictions still in place, once a Sim reaches the top of the Space Ranger branch, Rocket Ships and the building thereof become available to all Sims.

Athlete- Professional Athlete

Broken supply chains and the constant fight for survival means no one has any time to worry about their fitness anymore.
Workout regimes, personal trainers, healthy eating, and sports have all gone down the toilet in favor of more practical things.

  • No workout equipment may be purchased except for one of the cheapest punching bag (Self defense is still a useful skill)
  • Sims may not visit a gym, even if it has been modified to comply with other restrictions
  • Sims may not play catch
  • Sims may not watch the sports channel
  • Sims may not eat vegetarian food. Food that naturally contains no meat (ie. salads) is fine.
  • Sims may not perform any 'Energized' action, unless it is replacing a pre-existing action in the menu.\
  • Sims may not purchase or use basketball paraphanalia
  • Sims may not purchase or use a Sauna,Massage chair, Massage table,Yoga mat, or Meditation stool
  • Sims may not visit a Spa lot.
  • Sims may not watch the sports channel
Once a Professional Athlete rises from the family, they air a worldwide broadcast of the World Cup featuring the Llamas vs the Cows, Sims once again feel the spark of enthusiasm that comes from shouting at a radio or TV and blaming referees.
The Sim also launches their premium brand of sports goods and healthy living style. Sims are inspired by your fitness, and are once again willing to pay attention to their wellness. The Professional Athlete restrictions are lifted!

Athlete- Bodybuilder

A side effect of most of the population dying out was several chemical plant melt downs. A great amount of toxins have leaked into the air, and Sims now have to fight against a significant amount of muscular atrophy. No one can or will waste the energy on moving common objects, and it is a considerable struggle to carry more than a few things.
  • Once placed, no item larger than 1x1 may be moved or sold. Walls and floors do not count against this limit.
  • Sims may only have a total of 10 items in their inventory at any time. This counts every item in a stack as a single item.
Once a renowned Bodybuilder rises from the family, they perfect a workout regime and vitamin supplement to fight the muscular decay. Their popular tape 'Fitness for Fun and Function' catches metaphorical fire, and soon all of Sim kind is flexing their newly returned muscles. The Bodybuilder restrictions are lifted!

Business- Manager

The simoleon is only what the population agrees it is worth, and right now that's not much. Real world things like food, shelter, and clean water are the new currency in the wastelands. No one is willing to give up their valuable hours to all but the largest organizations.
  • Sims may not hire non-family members at an owned buisness
  • Sims may not hire any service
  • Sims may not 'Replace' any broken item
  • Sims may not sell any crafted items (books and songs may still be published)
When a Sim becomes a Business Manager they use their influence to reinstate trust in one globalised currency, the Simoleon 2.0, and sims once again tentatively turn to one another for paid goods and services. The Manager restrictions are lifted!

Criminal- Boss
  • You may only buy the worst version of any item. Single beds and double beds are considered to be different items
  • Only an 8x8 section of your lot may be used. This includes space for trashcan and mailbox, so plan accordingly. You MAY build upwards, but any following floor must also be within the 8x8 boundaries.
  • If Detective has not already been lifted, the mob payments are suppressed while a sim holds the top level in this career track. The mob doesn't tax itself!

Politics- Charity Organizer
  • Sims may not adopt children
  • Sims may not adopt pets via phone (Sims MAY still befriend strays and ask them to join the family)
  • Sims may not give to charity
  • Sims may not tip
  • Sims may not retire
  • Sims may not call in sick or fake illness
  • If restrictions allow children and teens to go to school, you must pay $100 per child a week on Sunday, regardless of if you will choose for them to attend.
There are two ways to do this:
    1. Use the 'money X' cheat (It is not considered failing the challenge to use this cheat for this purpose. Hold ctrl+shift+c, then type 'testingcheats true', then type 'money x' where x equals the current family funds minus the appropriate amount.
    2. Purchase an item worth $100 and immediately place it in the family inventory, never to be touched again. This item is not under regular restrictions as it will never be used and is simply a cash sink.

Politics- Politics
  • There is a firm one child per family rule in place. Any children born in spite of this law are to be considered 'Bad Apples', and must never be selected or controlled, unless it is to cancel an action that is breaking a restriction still in place. They are also not viable to lift restrictions. Should the first child die or otherwise be removed from play, the Bad Apple becomes the one child, and returns to normal playability and viability.
