Storytelling Module

Post by Mauricette »

Alrights, Sims2 players and storytellers. I've noticed a lot of you spend a lot of time storybuilding either by blog-style or slideshow. I'm wondering if any of you miss using the in game storytelling module and would like to be able to use it to extract your stories again.

If you've ever taken a look into your storytelling folder you'll find these curious little files called .xml files. They contain all your in game storytelling data, text, sequence and image information. Pretty neat, right? So my husband wrote me a little program that lets me use that data and uploads it to my Torquaret site whole, then converts it into a slideshow format for me! All I have to do is put that .xml file and the screenshot images into a .zip folder; upload that folder onto the site and wha-bam! Storiwa!
I find it incredibly efficient and useful. I can put the stories, called 'chapters', into 'books' so I can keep my stories, challenges and neighborhoods organized.

Users will have to be approved so hit me up with your gmail address if you're interested in using the site.

Manual
Spoiler:
1. Have your in game story ready for extraction!

2. Create .zip Folder

3. Go To Documents >EA Games >The Sims 2 > Neighborhoods > Neighborhood Name > Storytelling. Select .xml file and correlating images. Copy and Paste into .zip Folder.

4. Sign into torquaret.teknofire.net with a Google+ Account. Go to Uploads. Click Choose File. Select .zip Folder. Click Open and hit the Import! button.

5. Wait approx. 30 seconds for site to extract folder data then hit Refresh. From here you can select a Story Chapter and assign it to a Book.

Omg!!!!! I loooooveeeee it!!!!! This is absolutely amazing! I absolutely adored the in game storytelling feature, so much easier than pulling pics out, having to do any editing, reorganizing everything, rewriting. I would love to know more!

I used to use the in-game story-telling mode ALL the time! Of course, I couldn't share the things, but I enjoyed it, just for myself.

How do you do multiple chapters for the same household, though? I remember reading posts that other people made, where they had to move to a new lot every chapter, with placeholders without their own stories, and do the story there. It must have been confusing. Plus, what about when you want to mix it up? Still, it was WAY more convenient than clicking in and out of the game, in and out and in and out, and waiting for it to load again and all that, every time you want to make a new slide.

This looks amazing! Thanks!

Placeholders. That's how I used to do it, anyway, with the unused sim bin families, and eventually spares families, as it was a legacy I was uploading.

Those were the days, huh? :)

Yes, writers who put up multiple chapters in the exchange would use a different lot's story module and upload it from there.

But the zip folders contents cannot be manipulated, and I always keep those folders in a sims story folder under pictures even after uploading it to the site. Just in case the data is lost. So I'm confident about deleting the same lots storyboard and using the same lot over and over.

This is a really neat thing and deserves more recognition! Don't think I'll be using it myself though, as I've become so attached to the photo quality that out-of-game screenshots give. Still, nice to have it as an option in case my current options go down ^-^

This is really cool.

(Personally I won't be using it because typing in the game will reveal to you all how bad my spelling really is, but it's still cool.) ;)

Poor Mauricette's husband, I'm really putting him through his paces trying to figure this program out. I'm being a difficult customer, though, I started out with a Sims3 legacy and asked if using the website for that is even possible. He's trying so hard to accommodate me.
