Instant City - a BaMC(Build-a-Metropolis)Challenge - 40599

Post by Twilightoutside »

Hello and Welcome to a BaMC (Build a Metroplis) Challenge - where I will play according to the rules of the BaCC here *Version 23th April 2014, but instead try to reach a population of 500.000 ! (thx for the idea with the Name, Lorinsv)

*Apologies for the German text in the pictures - I couldn't bring myself to change the language and reinstall everything.*

For this I simply replayed my original - completed - BaCC-Challenge from an earlier Update and see how far I'll get, before the neighborhood blows up....
The original BaCC Challenge - in a really crappy Photobucket show- can be found here:

Spoiler:
Part 1 (*Update 18.07.2017: Updated Album to Imgur, discontinuing my PBucket Account)
Part 2 (+ Scorecard at the end)

- Challenge completed in 3 days real time (~ 32 hours, overkill :oops: ), 17 hours 1 sec Founder & other Lot time, plus ca. 20-25 hours Community Business time-
- No cheat codes, hacked objects etc. were used -
- For explanation how a DRED-Business works, see here-
- Also: enjoy our Founder Professor Disc in action (or however his 'real name' is - further research on Simlish only gave me: Ithled 44?) here ! :biggrin:
And here - despite the fact, that I promised a Deluxe Version... - the Metropolis Version, or rather the BaMC-Challenge:

Moving my last comment over because
Spoiler:
people must know the hilarity of Plants(ims) vs. ZombiesGhosts!
Awesome massive Disc update! :D Where to begin..?
Spoiler:
Vegan zombies! <3

I could not stop laughing at the futility of those poor ghosts at the cemetery (I mean literally could.not.stop!), that was hysterical!

Stephani is one the cutest Sim kids ever!

OHAI Business District! Time to PAR-TAY! :drinks:

I like how you incorporated IC's new City Planner with sprucing up the island. Very interesting and I know it took a lot of work. Instant City looks wonderful! :applause:

@ lorinsv:
Spoiler:
:haha: Yes, the poor ghosts fate to scare Plantsims without a bladder motive... spoiler: while the little cemetery in Instant City will probably not see anymore gravestones, I'm kinda planning on a more massive Burial site for even more job openings in paranormal.... plus, since it might take a long time till I get the numbers for 500.000, killing playables at the end of their lifetime ... and raising them as zombies perhaps.... you get the idea...
@chase:
Spoiler:
I sure hope so... :mrgreen: - of course, it's more likely that my neighborhood blows up first :cryingeyes: - btw, about the recap chapter... :duh: jeez, I made so many grammar mistakes and forgot words... oh well, it's under permanent construction, so I'll fix it... eventually... :mrgreen:

Sorry for necro-bumping, but... Update: Household B, Spring 1... yay me, I guess...

- in short, for the last 6 months, I played the entire Spring rotation for Instant City and set up an entire Business District... then I hit a writers block and was unable to write anything interesting, sooo... yeah... :timebomb:

Anyway, here - as a spoiler - is a picture of the - near to be finished - finished Business District, Numa Key:

Yay you, indeed :drinks:

Another tour de force in Sims gameplay! I just shake my head in wonder and grin all the way through.
Spoiler:
I seriously love your pictures :yes: Your attention to detail (terrain, stairs, decks, landscaping and views at the observatory alone) all add up to lots that look really wonderful. The public parts of the observatory look just like our university's planetarium with all the space-themed stuff for sale and the little restaurant area. And your little observations that would pass me by, like why the heck would Instant City's witches even need cars (though comfort would surely be one reason :lol: )

Heh, never knew about that mime statue. Did you actually make money with the vending machine? I put that same one on Zach's Hoops lot, but never thought to mark it for sale, perhaps that was my problem with it not contributing any revenue to the venue.

The little row of shops is so cuuuute! I'm officially changing the interior of Sanjay's new jewelry store to that purple from your clothes shop!

Go ahead, Professor Hang Loose, rub it in! >.< :wink: (Hey, thanks for plugs! :D)

I couldn't agree more with your evil witch/black cloud sentiment :heart:

Have to say it again: Congrats on all that money and all those achievements, you never fail to inspire me. :plumbob2:

Great neighborhood building tips at the end, and such a nice tribute to Moo. :cry: I never thought to use the Lot Adjuster to make my residential lots fit closer to each other, that has always been a problem with the uneven terrain in the Arbordale template I used for Mesa Vista (though I did shrink some of my community lots and had no problems placing them right next to each other, but the terrain also seems flatter on that side of the bridge...). Something else to put on the back burner, but a few of my families are outgrowing their starter homes and will soon be moving to larger ones, so perhaps I'll play around with it as they become vacant.
Fantabulous update as usual, and as usual, loved every minute of it!

Haha, great update as usual!
Spoiler:
All the military speak was a hoot! Love all the new businesses too: such clever ideas, and they really look great! I think an advantage to having Servos and witches/warlocks almost exclusively is it places more of the spotlight on your businesses. Instant City looks REALLY good with all those gorgeous buildings you've selected crammed together (in a good way!). IMO, it's comparable as far as just looking great in-game, as the vacation destinations.

The hoops you had to jump through in order to get your helicopter business off the ground :wink: had my head spinning. The control tower store is really cool!

The bakery/confectionary is charming too. I've always liked those Seasons kitchen cabinets. And your "Aw, come on, just a few more fires?" had me rolling! Congrats on those, btw. :D

Just getting this straight in my head: the cell phone kiosk doesn't work at player-owned community lots, but at unowned community lots it works fine? Like in MV, it works fine at the unowned public library.

Love how you implemented the dental clinic too. And your Apotheke :mrgreen: makes me want to get back to playing the Outside girls at Uni and get Laura Langerak into witchcraft, so I can get all that neat, NEW for me :), witchcrafty stuff for myself!

I just love watching as you develop Numa Key step-by-step. :yes:
Can't wait for more!

@lorin:
Spoiler:
Love to read your nice comments every time (totally trying not to be prideful & failing....).

- yes, the phone kiosk doesn't work on owned Businesses, but on unowned Community lots work fine.

I like to try out new business ideas like the pharmacy and the dentist or the helicopters, as there are only so many snack machine lots you can place before it gets boring...

Of course, I focus on the lots for now, because the Servos biggest downside is that they are not really interesting once there are many of them... they all look similar, they act similar... *yawn+
- and another chapter: Household D

More great businesses! :whome: Your updates always have such great business ideas and game strategies *feels inspired* :heart:
Spoiler:
Lol, I choose Buy Mode artwork to sell and you spend 3 weeks painting all yours yourself! I am still amazed at how well Sims route around all those wall pillars in such a narrow space. Thanks again for letting me steal your Gallery idea!

:jawdrop: So.Many.Fish! LOL! The fish case looks really nice surrounded by the wood and stone. Did the fishing lot come that way? Anyhoo, I'm stealing that idea too :mrgreen: (with credit, of course).

The little lookout lot is a nice idea too. We have lots of little lookout points or scenic areas in the mountains around here that are quite similar to that lot. :)

And mustn't forget congrats on the teachers and doctor. I did notice you're starting to get some non-witch muggle townies again. :tongue:

Phaenoh's hospital looks great in Numa Key, and I'm happy with her little clinic for a small town like Mesa Vista.

I might not have noticed the placement of the hood deco street if you hadn't pointed it out, but really, it's the little details like that which makes Instant City the beautiful little city it is. And with all the care and time and effort you're putting forth to build a real, working Sim city, I think you're entitled to feel some measure of pride in what you're doing. Was just thinking the other day how cool it is to see for the first time a BaCC that literally shows a city being built! Who woulda thunk, right? Not that it's necessarily the way one has to be shown, but boy, do I sure love seeing one like this!
More, please? :)

@Lorinsv:
Spoiler:
Your indepth analysis always makes my day - :sly:
The gallery idea was actually - like many other ideas, I have to admit - on Wolfsim68's Stoneyville Artist's Studio & Galleryas far as these wall pillars are concerned - it allows to put up many paintings in a small space without looking like it's just single wallelements serving as placeholders.

The golden national Lake was made by ambers_journey at mts-com and originally came without a fish-shop - I just reworked her bus station for that.

Same goes for Lookout mountain, I just added the tent on the backside of mountain for later visitors

Actually, there are still enough Muggle townies around (650+ Sims does SimPE say inhabit the hood, the hacks have prevented further spawning) yet the appearance 125 Witches and wizards around does in fact fluctuate...

Yep, the hospital really is something - only downside is that I can't really use it, as most rooms are too far away for customers to be interested in anything to buy or purchase...

The hood deco was a compromise - I couldn't place the train tunnel by criquette into the mountain in a way, that it would connect to the hood street - also the hood street had a curve here, so it wouldn't have worked anyway. the first street deco element by criquette then allowed me to lead the street right into the tunnel, but also cut the street at this point in two as it comes with the walkway and green on both sides. So I placed a second element to hide the first ones walkway and green on the side it cuts the street in two, which works 50 % of the time depending on what the game considers to be the higher/lower placed street element at any given angle...
@Chase:

You really, really read all the chapters??? :dizzy: I can barely make it through my summary chapter, let alone the first 2 seasons... you're amazing! :drinks:

YAY!
Spoiler:
Seriously love the look of the Tidal Wave Gym, both inside and out! Watching Servos on all the equipment was funny too!

I have a lot of amberjourney's lots including the used car lot in my game too because I like the small-town feel of them, which suits Mesa Vista at this stage of its development. One of my favorite things about watching Instant City is your ideas on how to re-purpose existing lots.

Love how grim the prison looks! Is it the light from the snack machines that gives the cell doors that green tinge? The little prison yard with the basketball hoop looks great too.

The library is really cute, I like how the columns in front give it a collegiate look.

I've never seen a quilt misfire before, that's neat. I also want to have a store with exclusively hand-sewn pieces and see how that goes. I'm not pushing to level-up my businesses unless they're fun to play, so I'm not expecting it to be too much of a (the un-fun kind) grind.

Do the massage tables work like the makeover chair as far as selling massages? I ask because I wanted to use the massage tables in a "wellness clinic" along with the sauna and the in-ground hot tub. Well, actually just one massage table and then one Sim could give massages and the other could sell them? Or would the sauna and hot tub confuse the Sims? I'm just trying to avoid the frustration I had trying to sell makeovers with Yvette Tan's salon.

You know, it makes sense story-wise passing the Bookcase of Education along to subsequent households now that you've thrown out the idea that Prof Disc's Servos are being utilized to build up his city as quickly and efficiently as possible.

This was a fun and interesting update, as always. Looking back at my pictures from the Outside and Korben weeks, I anticipate my updates are going to get quite a bit shorter as well.

@Ani-Mei:
Spoiler:
Thanks for the the Prince Nemo reference :smirk: :smirk:

- and I still have a copy of my F.a.f.E. Apocalypse in my folder... haven't played it in years though :? ...

... there is also one more complete-shot chapter with roughly 280 pictures still waiting in my archive, I just never couldn't bring myself to actually start adding text to the pictures... *sigh* but perhaps with this incentive I can finally break the curse of the writers block for F.a.f.E.... :idea:

- as for the old chapters: you can still find them at hoopytrib's archive under twilightoutside, together with many other exchange stories here.

I've also uploaded powerpoint versions of all F.a.f.E. chapters on my authorstream account - you can see the list of them here
@lorinsv:
Spoiler:
According to what I've seen, the massage tables work like this: you can set the price of a massage and assign a masseur, but Sims - just seem to ignore the massage table no matter what I do... only thing that works, is that the Sims who is supposed to be the masseur has to offer them a massage - and anything but laughably cheap is rejected, but then again, laughably cheap is 50 Simoleons... of course, once the massage is done the Sim who was the masseur isn't in any way assigned to massage table, so assigning a masseur is at best a way to keep a Sim near the massage table for a while, and even that is problematic, as any townie can walk to him and break the assignment by just talking to him...

as for the prison cells... I'm not sure, perhaps it's just because I placed green toilets in them which together with the light of the snackmachines give of this effect...

@Chase
Spoiler:
:heavybreathing: thank goodness -I almost thought we have to operate... catching up is much easier, so far only the only thing you have to know, is that there is:
- 1 Professor
- 2 Children
- Lots of Servos, also Bigfeet and Pets
- and then there's this city they're building... there, everyone else caught up now, too... :splat:
Also, Household F - the Pet Owners.

Holy cow, you're an updating maniac! :party2:
Spoiler:
SOOOO many kawaii pet shots! I didn't know Sim animals would care for different species, that's awesome! And the doggie in the window... :hearts:

Such cute, tiny businesses, but I would almost be afraid to try them. I like the antique/antiquities shop a lot, the BV maps could look good alongside the Egyptian tablets.

I saw the counters in the kitchen store, not realizing they housed dishwashers and such. The out-of-stock sign hanging on the cabinet front is yet another cool discovery!

Lamp store! :idea: :heart: :yes:

I love retail businesses, they're definitely my favorite to set up and run.
Super fun read, so enjoyed it as always! :plumbob2:
