What do you like/prefer about the Sims 3?

For forever I have played TS2 and that only...but now I am thinking of trying to upgrade! (Not only upgrade my game but my computer too...that's a different thread.) BUT, I don't know which one I want. :( I was so very upset when they took toddlers out of TS4 that it turned me off completely. So I'm stuck on getting TS3 but I want to know what everyone else is thinking. What do you like/dislike/prefer from TS3 in comparison to TS4 assuming you have played both? If you had to recommend one and I could only get one, which would you recommend? I've always really loved TS2 and it has my heart but I know it's getting REALLY old and I want to see what's out there. I would appreciate any feedback you all can give me. :)

Hi :)

I love Create a World for TS3. I love being able to really make the world and the houses (CASt) and Sims to my ideas... That's also one think I don't really like about TS4- no customization.

I really don't know the way you play The Sims but I'd suggest trying TS4 with the free 48... or I think it's 48 hours- free trial on Origin. That way you get an idea.

I don't like the over goofiness of TS4 Sims but the movements of TS3 mouth and nose has always put me off... so, both have their negatives. :)
TS4 is getting more of what everyone is asking about...

TS3 is finished and stuff will go on sale- and TS4 is still growing and yet it still goes on sale.

I'm very decisive. TS4 is more of a quick start and put down game, TS3 is great for hours of play. ;)

Good luck choosing. I'm going to wait awhile until I buy more of TS4.

You talked about really customizing Sims and houses and I'm really looking forward to that! I love building houses so that's a really important aspect for me.

You also mentioned TS3 is good for long play and that's really something I'm looking for too.

I honestly feel that TS4 is just TOO much you know what I mean?

It really depends on what you want to get out of the game!

I own 2, 3 & 4 and while I play all of them casually from time to time, TS3 is my main platform for legacies and blogging. The Create a Style feature really sells it for me - you just don't get that level of customization in the others, so if your focus is on design (Sims, houses, etc.) then TS3 is probably for you. The other deciding factor is the totally seamless worlds. Everything is open and especially if you have a better Story Progression installed, you feel like you're controlling the whole neighbourhood even if you're playing just one sim.

I guess the major drawback of having that much freedom is that the game can be prone to some lag and bugginess. I've probably had more technical issues with TS3 than with the other games combined (but I also clog my game up with mods, so there's that). But if your computer can handle it and you have some patience for that kind of thing, it can really take advantage of more powerful specs like a good graphics card. TS4 on the other hand is built to be a little less technically demanding. :)

As for the looks of the sims, Rflong is right about the funky nose/mouth thing. TS2 were generally "prettier" but I love the detailed eye movement in TS3. So far, I've had a hard time making TS4 sims look distinctive, even though you can do a lot with the moulding feature.

All in all, I still have a soft spot for TS2 (plus: it was easier to kill sims), and TS4 has potential, but right now I would say TS3 is the most complete simming experience you can get. :)

This was SUPER helpful Gryffindork! I appreciate your feedback.

TS3 will always have a place in my heart. I just wanna experience the "upgraded" version of my favorite game and TS3 is really checking all the boxes for me. :)
