Family Trees

Post by Heather »

Besides the in-game family trees, has anybody else here created extended family trees with websites (or on paper, photoshop, etc) that they'd like to share?

I have an extended tree for my prosperity neighborhood on Family Echo here. I prefer this website to the game's family trees, because I can choose what pictures to use for each sim, as well as list information like their bios, jobs, and aspirations. It's a little harder to add things like affair babies, but doable.

I haven't bothered with it lately, but I remember using PowerPoint's org charts for doing a family tree. I could make it look pretty much however I wanted that way.

I also use Family Echo :) Here is the tree for the Yadreni family, which is the family from my apocalypse challenge (and DITFT challenge).

I also keep a family tree for almost every challenge family of mine on paper. It's kind of very nerdy and I have to recreate them to allow space every couple of generations but it's fun :P As I was doing Pokalypton, I kept the family tree on a whiteboard, as well as keeping track of career lifts, and planning future lifts. It was very helpful to have at a quick glance, and rewarding seeing the tree expand and the careers go from red to green marker :)

Thanks for sharing your tree, Chase!

I used to keep mine on paper, but I kept running out of room. I should try doing that again now that I have access to giant pieces of paper/illustration boards... :hmm:

I also use Family Echo, but I really need to update the trees. (Also, the family tree is a little ahead of my legacy... spoilers.)

I'll add it here when I update it. :pizza:

I also use Family Echo! I like it much better than other sites I tried, since you're allowed to give same-sex couples kids, and I have a lot of gay couples.

I have a tree for my BaCC, since it's basically one giant family: http://familyecho.com/?p=START&c=13vx82 ... view:START
And for my Uberhood: http://familyecho.com/?p=START&c=wqpcyy ... 8175580082

I may have to try this Family Echo place.

One question - Where do you get all your sim pictures? These all have the black background, and look like the sim icons in the live-mode interface. I thought I'd just have to take manual pictures for each sim.

I extract the pictures from SimPE. I like that all of the pictures are uniform by doing it that way instead of me having to pose my Sims every time they age up to get nice pictures.

That reminds me... I need to put a family tree together. :D

I use the ingame family tree and just add some things for information purposes. :)

I had one for my Quest For Peace legacy, it was interesting to see how ten generations went on past the first four of my Godly OWBC, of which my last heir founded a my Quest so I had like fifteen generations.

And this is yet another reason I wish I could get SimPE to work on my Mac.

I haven't really done much but paper yet, but have been looking into maybe using a program/site to do so. The ingame tree can be hard to maneuver once you get past the second generation or so, especially when you have a lot of kids!
Call me Jenn/Rai, I answer to both!

Is SimPE the only way to go? I don't have it.

For extracting pictures? I can't help you there besides assume that you can still use in-game pictures.

For making family trees in general? It's absolutely not a necessity. :plumbob2: (That said, it's the best and safest way to extract sims in case you ever need to restart your neighbrohood, so it's best to get it and handle it with care, if your setup is compatible with it.)

I love the naming scheme you've got going for for your sims. :)

Now that's a family tree I can do! I don't mean the quantity or anything, but the layout. Thanks for giving me ideas! :applause:
