SimNaNoWriMo 2017

So there were a lot of months tossed around last year for this event and there was no clear consensus on what month it should be, October was not great for those still in school or college because that month is busy, July was ruled out for some reason that I can't remember, that leaves August as the only real option I can see. There's still about 10 days left in July if August is generally agreed upon for this year's SimNaNoWriMo. I could run a poll to see what month works if that helps any. I will add November for those who aren't doing NaNoWriMo and still want to write something. There really is only four months left in 2017 so there's not a lot of options (unless we forgo 2017 altogether).

Thanks Ani-Mei, Go ahead and run the poll. Let's see what works.

I voted for September. Not on top of NaNoWriMo or the holidays in December. And it gives those doing both NaNo and SimNoWriMo a month off to relax and prep for NaNo. Not August to give enough people time to notice the event and plan accordingly.

But I'd be game for any month.

I agree that August is too close to hold SimNoWriMo this year; there'd be very little time for any planning, and I think we'd get more participants if we gave users notice more than one week in advance. I'd imagine lots of people are busy with summer plans/jobs, and might not be checking the forum as often, so there's a good chance they wouldn't see the event announcement in time to participate. I think we'd need to announce it at least one month in advance, so any month after August could work.

I agree that August is too soon. I like September, because it gives time to plan, but avoids the holiday month, and competition with NaNoWriMo. Planning is important.

Also pre-playing, and neighborhood building.

In fact, after reading Thai's apocalypse challenge, with Phaeno's Tiered rules, I have decided to re-install Sims 2 on my Mac (only up to Bon Voyage - WHYYYY?, EA?!), and use that tiered set for an apocalypse challenge on that computer, without messing up any of my play on my Windows laptop. So, I can prep that neighborhood on the Mac, and maybe pre-play a bit, and do my SimNaWriMo on that project.

I'll leave this open, people probably haven't been on enough to check so I don't want to close it beforehand. Right now it looks like September is the winner, but that can still change.

Well since the vote count hasn't moved in like three days, I am going to assume that everyone wants September to be this year's SimNaNoWriMo.

Then I guess this can be locked. September seems to have won.

I moved then 2016 sections to Archives and set up a section for 2017.

Ani-Mei, would you be willing to start the threads like last year?
  • Master Update

I will also need suggestions for the medals, if anyone has a preference/suggestion.
